Liu Zhi Gang, Chief Cardiovascular Surgeon, Vice President of TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital. He was deputy director of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery Center Cardiovascular Institute (Fuwai Hospital). He graduated from Liaoning Medical College with Bachelor Degree in 1986, obtained his PhD degree from Cardiothoracic Surgery Department Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College in 2000. He has been visiting scholar/professor of many famous cardiovascular institutions such as University of Hong Kong Cardiovascular Surgery Dept. & Research Institute of Grantham Hospital, Ohio State University, Columbus Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Children’s Hospital, Boston Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He was assigned by American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) and American Cardiac Surgeon Continuous Education Committee to design the examination papers of American cardiac surgeon continuous education program in January 2008. He was the first Chinese surgeon who gave the lecture on the 85th AATS annual meeting in San Francisco, U.S., 2005. The topic of the lecture is Should the “elephant trunk” be skeletonized? Total arch replacement combined with stented elephant trunk implantation for Stanford type A aortic dissection. Became the first voice be heard from China.
He has operated more than 5,000 surgeries and as main surgeon he finished more the 3000 surgeries over 20 years work in both adult and pediatric area, including one-stage total aortic replacement, descending thoracic aorta and abdominal aorta replacement, off- pump aortic arch replacement, ascending aorta and total aortic arch replacements, stented elephant trunk implantation, Bentall’s surgery, Cabrol surgery, David surgery, CABG, heart valve repair, multiple valves replacement combined with radiofrequency ablation for auricular fibrillation, left ventricle outflow tract clearance and aortic root enlarge, the removal of cardiac tumor.
